F is for Fisherman

A fisherman lives here with the catch of his life...so they say.

Here's what else they say:

There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a gentleness of spirit, a pure serenity of the mind. ~Washington Irving

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual of occasions for hope. ~ John Buchan

To him, all good things, trout as well as eternal salvation, come by grace and grace comes by art and art does not come easy. ~Norman Maclean, A River Runs Through It

The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad. ~A.K. Best

For the rich there is therapy, for the rest of us there is FISHING! ~Unknown

Fishermen don't yield to the weather. ~Jack MacKinnon

Often I have been exhausted on trout streams, uncomfortable, wet, cold, briar scarred, sunburned, mosquito bitten, but never, with a fly rod in my hand have I been less than in a place that was less than beautiful. ~Charles Kuralt

My husband is a fisherman and I wouldn't change a thing about that. ~Tracy

  3. Great photos. I live with a fisherman too. He got a new pole for Christmas, tied something to the hook and practiced casting from his bedroom down the stairs and around the corner. At first I didn't know what the heck was going on. Then I fussed at him for not being careful because of the hook. Then he showed me how the hook was covered and there was no chance of anybody getting hooked. In the end I realized this is what you get when you live with a fisherman in December. I think I will try to take him out this weekend. Thanks for the reminder! It will be good for him to get out with nature.

    Or this one:

“Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime”—Author unknown

    Or maybe this one?

“Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime. Teach a man to sell fish and he eats steak.”—Author unknown

  8. This is a great montage of photos and quotes. My husband saw it and he loved it. He (and the boys) are all aspiring fishermen - they just don't get (take) the time to do it very often. After reading all those quotes, I think I need to encourage it more, ie fishing = stress reduction.

lol. Lucky guy and funny, too. John and Dan will get along great. I'm actually looking into a fly fishing get-away for Dan for Father's Day. They say it's great here in the Catskills. He's always wanted to learn. A little different from the Bass Fishing off of Corpus. lol.
I was online looking at ranchettes in Bastrop last night.... maybe....

  10. The pictures and quotations are perfect! Ever read Izaak Walton's book, The Compleat Angler? Great book, even for non-fishermen like me!
