This is lifetime pair number 24.
My Version of Baby Cable Rib Socks
Sensational Knitted Socks
With Short-Row Heels and Toes the PG-R Way
Worked on 48 Stitches
Yarn: Reynolds Soft Sea Wool (100% Wool)
Color: 754 Yellow
Needles: US 2 (2.75 mm) DPNs
The whole time I was knitting these socks, I went back and forth on whether I liked the yarn or not. It's much different than any other sock yarn I've used before: two ply and with a springy twist. On one hand, its stretchy quality produces great stitch definition, which I love. On the other hand, I found the elasticity a challenge to work with. I never really got used to it.
The end result however, is a pretty pair of socks with a cushy, comfortable feel and I believe that overrides any negative feeling I had in the way the yarn handled for me. Plus, this yarn is a great bargain! I paid only $5.95 per hank (162 yds), using just two hanks for these socks with some yarn left over.
If you've used Soft Sea Wool before, I'd be interested to hear what you think about it. Do you love it? Hate it? Indifferent?
Overall I like it, though it's not my favorite. And, I'd use it again, especially when I want the stitches in a pattern to really make a statement.
Those socks look wonderful, and are a pretty color for spring!
ReplyDeleteWow, I didn't realize that you had done 24 pairs of socks. That's very impressive. I am going to have to try that pattern sooner or later. I need to try new patterns for socks. I don't know about that yarn and will be interested in hearing what others have to say about it.
ReplyDeleteI love the color you chose. It looks like butter. I agree that it really shows off the cable stitches. I have never used soft sea wool. I have never seen it for sale in my local knitting store. I may have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteLovely. Really pops.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I need to try that stitch pattern once I finish up my current Monkey Socks (in an extremely bright colorway). I like the stitch definition you got with this yarn.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of Sea Wool. It has a hard finish and while the pattern looks nice, it doesn't feel good on my feet. Love the way your cables look!
ReplyDeleteI've never used sea wool but that stitch definition can't be beat. The knitting looks good too. What are you going to cast on for now? These finished objects must mean new items too come.
ReplyDeleteLove the socks. Look at you surprising us with a FO when we didn't even know it was a WIP.

Boy you get a lot of knitting done! Great socks - I'm going to have to remember that yarn, I really like the looks of it.
ReplyDeleteSo nice, congratulations!!
ReplyDeleteI love the pattern. Very pretty socks! I've never worked with that yarn, though I tried knitting something out of Cascade Fixation once, and it was a struggle for me. I was still quite inexperienced at that time and ended up shelving the project. I guess it's time to give it a try again.
ReplyDeleteThe socks are eye catching. I was just dreaming of a pair of pale yellow socks for spring and came upon your blog entry!
ReplyDeleteI've never used that yarn (or any other yarn with elastic in it), but those socks look great!
ReplyDeleteVery nice socks. Definately get a bigger sock drawer. Nothing feels better on your feet than hand knit socks.
