Beautiful Yarn, Simple Stitches

Remember this yarn?

Hand Maiden Sea Silk
Color: Rose Garden

I won it in a random drawing a few months ago. Originally I thought it would become a Swallowtail Shawl, but I wasn't confident there would be enough yardage, though several people on Ravelry seem to have gotten by with one skein. Instead, I've decided to turn it into Montego Bay Scarf.

The fishnet lace pattern is very simple--mindless, even. It's so simple that you wouldn't think there would be any way to mess it up. I suppose that's the pitfall of mindless knitting. See all the yarn wrapped around the ball?

That's the amount I had to rip back when I realized I had zigged when I should have zagged. I was about three inches away from my mistake when I noticed it. It wasn't a big deal, but I'm paying better attention now--reading my stitches instead of letting my mind wander too much.

This scarf is growing at a steady pace and I'm enjoying it. Right now it's the only thing I'm working on, though that's always subject to change.

  5. You have perfect timing. I just unraveled a lace scarf that I wanted to knit with Whisper. It's got mohair in it, which I really hate working with. It looks like this scarf might fit the bill. I need mindless knitting right now with work zapping all my energy. It's looking pretty good. Can't wait to see it finished.

  6. I have been wanting to try Hand Maiden Sea Silk yarn...going to order some soon, after we get back from traveling in a couple of weeks. So I was delighted to see your close-up of this yarn...it looks beautiful! I like the color way of this yarn you won. And the pattern looks just the thing for this yarn. I was working a scarf once that had a very similar fishnet-like pattern, and I messed up big time...I'd knit about 8 inches before I'd realized the mistake (GASP!) Made me think twice about mindless knitting...LOL! Can't wait to see your finish. Happy Day ((HUGS))

  16. Beautiful! I made a swallowtail out of it for my Mom and it's gorgeous, but I have nto blocked it yet so haven't blogged or put it up on ravelry. Seems to me I had some left over as well. I believe the yardage for the Swallotail is the yardage on the particular ball of yarn she used and it doesn't take quite that much, but I'm not positive. How's that for a definite answer! lol I like what you are making with it though.

  19. That looks like a beautiful yarn and I really like the scarf. I do very well with patterns that need strict attention, and always end up making mistakes in the mindless knitting ones. If they're too easy, I guess I don't pay attention.
