The beauty of this neck gaiter is its simplicity and versatility.
Worn as designed, it's long enough to pull up over your mouth and nose if needed. You can, of course, knit it to any length you want. The pattern suggests 8". Mine is 8.5".
Fold it in half for an extra thick neck warmer. I wore it this way for fishing on Friday night and it kept me toasty warm.
Doubled up like this, it can also be a headband/ear warmer. Two layers of wool did a excellent job of blocking the cool breeze on Saturday.
If you want more coverage, wear it as an open-topped hat.
I may have to knit another one, so I can wear two at once.
Free Pattern: Ribbed Neck Gaiter
Yarn: Araucanaia Nature Wool
Color: Am 0320
Needles: US 7, 16" circular
I've knit three neckwarmers this week, the kind that close with a button (two for gifts, and one for me). I've decided, though, that I need something I can just quickly pull on and off when I take the dog out for her evening 'bizness', as well as for walking her each night, until this cold weather is behind us, anyway.
ReplyDeleteThis gaiter looks like it will fit the bill. Now, if I can only get it knit before the cold weather is gone, as I'm no speed knitter! ;-)
Very nice idea!!
ReplyDeleteIt would be great over mouth and nose to go by motorcycle in winter!!
Love the gaiter. My son had just mentioned in the last couple of weeks he wanted me to knit him one for when he rides his motorcycle. Think I'll try this one.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT.IT EVEN LOOKS LIKE IT MIGHT BE SOMETHING I CAN EVEN MAKE. MAYBE?
ReplyDeleteI'M GOING TO SEE IF I CAN MAKE A PREEMIE HAT USING YOUR BASIC HAT PATTERN. I'M GOING TO USE 2 SETS OF CIRCULAR NEEDLES INSTEAD OF THE 4 DPN'S. I JUST CAN'T USE THOSE THINGS, THEY FALL EVERYWHERE.
Hummmmm what a great idea. I love a pattern you can use different ways. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteVersatility makes it so useful and it's beautiful, too!
ReplyDeletePerfect for you! Lovely yarn too. You'll have to make John one too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a versatile item! And it looks good, too.
ReplyDeleteI, too, like the versatility of a neck warmer, and yours is a beauty.

ReplyDeleteWow! That is a versatile knitted item. And you look so cute in every way you wear it.
ReplyDeleteAnother great useful knit. The color is great on you!

It's perfect, Tracy!!
ReplyDeleteThat is soooo cool!!! Lovely color!! Thanks for showing as well as telling us all the different ways to wear it. I am such a visual person. Great!! :)

Brilliant, beautiful, practical and versatile.
ReplyDeleteGail,
ReplyDeleteFishing was so slow on Friday night, I gave up and went in the trailer to knit.
Tracy
Love the versatility of that gator! Thanks for sharing the link.
ReplyDeleteI love that it can be both a neckwarmer or a headwarmer!! Very versatile!
ReplyDeleteMy Son has ordered a neck warmer for when he's on his motor cycle, having seen how versatile they are I might need to make the girls one too.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! Nice that it can be both for a man or woman :)
ReplyDeleteLove it! Like the versatility of this one versus other ones I've made. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteVery nice neck warmer and you look so pretty modeling it.
ReplyDeleteThat's very clever. I love the yarn color. You are very photogenic btw. You take excellent pictures!
ReplyDeleteHi Tracy: I was reading some of your older posts, and seen that you made a nice scarf this year for the 2009 Special Olympic's, I knit one too, and sent it off in the nick of time, and was wanting to know if they reached their goal of 4,000...so I emailed them, and a lady from Coats & Clark emailed me back, and told me that they not only made their goal this year, but just a week ago, she said they had 40,000 scarves that had been sent to Boise, Idaho so far...I was just wanting to know if they were going to do this again next year, but doubt that they will need any in the near future..ha, I was so happy to hear back from them, and too hear that the forty thousand scarfs were there waiting for the Special Olympics now...Whew Knitters & Crochet people sure came through... Well, going to start a knit ribbed neck gaiter...
ReplyDeleteGail Lucille
I love it too. I'm thinking that my daughter will love one, even when it's not so cold to hold her hair back with.
ReplyDeleteTHANKS TRACY FOR YOUR HELP, AFTER DAYS OF PULLING IT ALL OUT I HAVE FIGURED IT OUT AND I'M ON MY WAY. KNIT1 PURL1 NEARLY DID ME IN.
