2007
This is the year I will learn to spin. Officially I became a spinner on December 25, 2006 when I spun this yarn on my new Kromski Sonata wheel (named Virginia). The yarn is primitive and crude, but I am not discouraged. In fact, I am excited by the challenge of improving my skills. I am documenting the beginning of my spinning adventures on this first day of 2007, so at the end of the year I can look back and see just how far I've come. Wishing everyone a Happy New Year!

Hang on to that skein, Tracy. I have a little tag on my 1st and 2nd skeins and they are still in my spinning basket twelve years later. You'll be amazed at how quickly your yarn will become thin and you won't be able to spin that thick/thin yarn again.... I think it's gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteYour first yarn is very nice! Good luck with the spinning, I bet you'll be great!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThat first skein is great==I've been trying to use a drop spindle, to no success, yet. It will be interesting to watch your progress with the new wheel this year. :)
Happy New Year to you, too! I think your yarn is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! Looking forward to tracking your progress along with you as I just started with a spindle myself, and a wheel is in my very near future.
ReplyDeleteNice to see you enjoying your present. Keep the pictures coming!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been on the computer much this week, with the kids home on vacation and break, so this is the first I have read about your wheel.
ReplyDeleteWoo Hoo!!!!!!!! You have jumped over to the dark side and you are going to have SO much fun!
The yarn is gorgeous! I can't wait to see more.
ReplyDeleteLooks like it would make a fun dying project and then maybe a felted bowl?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on starting to spin. I know you'll soon be a whiz.
Happy New Year, and thanks for a year of inspiration in many ways: knitting, giving, cherishing people you love, learning new things.
Hey not bad! As you learn you will be wishing that you could get back to spinning that big or thick and thin again and it's much harder! I wandered over to your blog from another blog and I've enjoyed looking around!
ReplyDeleteYou will be so surprised at how much progress you can make in just a few short months. My first attempt looks about the same as yours. You will love spinning and knitting with it.
ReplyDeleteI think the thin/thick yarn looks great. It'll be fun watching your spinning adventures for 2007.
ReplyDeleteOh, I think it's beautiful! How fun for you! Lydia
ReplyDeleteI love the yarn, it looks great - if you stretch it, it will be just fine. What a nice first skein! If you don't have a stretcher, you can use any object in the house that it stretches on. Just dunk it in water, slap it against the side of the tub to set the twist and stretch it on something. I use an old wooden carved name piece (if you are old enough you will remember the 80's craze). It works just fine and saves me the fee for a niddy noddy. The stretching is where the overtwists move to the undertwists and makes it more even.
ReplyDeleteYou did GOOD. Don't overstress it. It sounds like you got the flow down and you are all set. Remember, you can always use your first few things as a felting project.
Happy spinning. Love the wheel.

Congrats on receiving a spinning wheel from your "Santa". I had to smile about not keeping notes on wips that sit awhile unfinished...I do the same time after time. Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteWonderful new project, I love the way your first endeavor looks. (you should save it to remmember the feeling) I'm coming through the wool crafts by the back door, (the sheep), so this is all new to me except a little crocheting. I found your site looking for crafters of wool in Florida and am looking forward to your process and my own. Enjoy!
