So how did I spend my time in the Texas Hill Country during Ike?
I had all the time in the world to knit, but I didn't really feel like it. I completed only 17 rows of stockinette stitch on my tee. We bought three movies to watch on DVD, but didn't even open the packages. Our thoughts were elsewhere, so mostly we sat outside and enjoyed our surroundings. The hummingbirds entertained us at the feeders and we listened to reports of the storm on the radio. In the evenings we cooked out on the grill and roasted marshmallows for dessert.
One day we drove into Fredericksburg and while there, I stopped by Stonehill Spinning.
As the sign says, they cater to Rug Hookin', Knittin' and Spinnin'.
The inside of the store is just as charming as the front porch, though I didn't take any pictures to show you.
I browsed for a time, waiting for something to call my name. Right away I knew I wanted to buy one of their aprons. And of course, there was yarn purchased as well. I couldn't decide on anything for me so I had John pick two colors of El Coyote Ranch yarn.
It's a blend of natural colored Rambouillet sheep and Angora goat with a bit of Llama added to the light gray.
He has requested that I cook up a hat for him with this yarn.
Any suggestions?
Sounds like an awesome store!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a really cool store.
ReplyDeleteLove the apron!
That looks like an adorable little shop! Did they have spinning wheels, too?
ReplyDeleteLove the shop! How fun to shop in a folksy place like that. The apron is darling. The yarn would make a great Turn A Square!
ReplyDeleteHow about Koolhaas by Jared Flood?
ReplyDeleteYou make me want to explore more of Texas!
ReplyDeleteCharming store. I agree with margene. Turn a Square was the first pattern I thought of. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/turn-a-square
ReplyDeleteThe store looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteI love your apron and the yarn. I think I basic fisherman's watch cap, with the rolled-up brim in the contrasting color would be nice. But anything you knit will be beautiful and appreciated I'm sure!
Glad that you were able to explore a bit: the shop is a treasure and your purchases are wonderful. I love the apron.
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat looking store. I absolutely adore the sign & pillows. It's a strange feeling when life stress is such that working with yarn doesn't even hold any draw, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteMy parents have traveled to the hill country of TX twice, they really enjoy that area. That looks like a neat shop and I love the apron!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun store! Love the apron. With two colors, you should make a hat with some type of intarsia or fair isle. Hmm... fish maybe? That yarn also looks like it would be awesome with cables.
ReplyDeleteI'm laughing at John's request for you to "cook" up a hat. ;-Þ You look darling in your new apron, and that yarn looks plumb luscious!
ReplyDeleteThe store front is too cute. If I ever get to visit Fredricksburg, I'm finding that store!
I agree with Margene - the Turn a Square hat would look great in that wool
ReplyDeleteLove the apron... must get me one of those (grin)
Someday I'll blog about the felled hat I made Glen...my first attempt at felting. It will go down in our family history as an "only Mom" story. Love the colors of yarn for John's hat...I am partial to all shades of brown.
ReplyDeleteI thought of Brooklyn Tweed's Habitat hat for the yarn but I am not sure with the two colors. I am trying to think of something else....
ReplyDeleteWhat cute embroidery.
Oh, I would love to visit that yarn store! Must make an effort to visit the Hill Country, it is beautiful, but especially in the Spring when all the wildflowers are in bloom! Did you by any chance stop at the wildflower seed store? I understand it's a must see.
ReplyDeleteLove the yarn you chose, and the apron looks nifty.
What a cute store! Pretty yarn and apron, too. :)
ReplyDeletehehe, cook up a hat, you made me giggle, I love that pic!
ReplyDeleteSorry that I have not been able to post. My C drive is full on my lap top and I think when I did some cleaning out I deleted my drivers. I got them fixed so now I can post. Glad that you are okay after the storm. We looked at you on the map constantly checking where the storm was going and then where it had been. Glad you are safe and everything is okay.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a really cute yarn shop. Sounds like you entertained yourself very well. What traveling knitter doesn't look for at least one yarn port in the storm?? Cute apron!
May I suggest the soaring eagles had on Kodymayknits blog, I think it would show off the contrasting hat nicely. The vacation sounded so peaceful
ReplyDeleteI think you were worried about the fish! I am glad everything was ok at your place.
ReplyDeleteWow - I just love how you make everything seem like a wonderful upbeat experience. I'm sure you must have been worried at the very least.
ReplyDeleteJean at The Scottish Lamb has a great Mountain Man Hat - http://scottishlamb.typepad.com/photos/free_patterns/img_0140.html - and I think it would look wonderful with that yarn.
What a cute little store! Just the outside of it is adorable! I love their sign too....
ReplyDeleteAnd yummy - new yarn!!!!
