W is for Weekender

We are now officially Matagorda weekenders!

A new section opened up at Pelican Point RV Park and we decided to rent a space and keep our travel trailer down there full time. We moved it in on Monday.

This is the view of the Colorado River from our spot.

A few weeks ago we saw a bald eagle perched in one of the trees on the opposite bank. It was far away, but we confirmed it with a pair of binoculars. We are told there is an eagle's nest up the river.

After setting up the trailer, there was just enough daylight left to test out the waters. John caught the first fish--a nice sized sand trout.

Not to be outdone, I caught two at once.

We fished until sunset, catching several more sandies while being serenaded by the sounds of nature: cows mooing across the river, an owl hooting from his hidden spot in a tree, coyotes howling in the distance.

We said a prayer that night, thanking God for giving us this peaceful place to spend our weekends.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. ~James 1:17

  10. Some of the best times we've had have been camping in our little trailer. We sold it quite a few years ago, but talk often of getting another one "some day." Your spot looks lovely.

  17. This reminds me of when my husband and I were first married. We used to fish allot off of table rock lake in Missouri where my hubby is from. Of course I am from Oregon and we have not fished here since we moved here in 2000.. Wierd cuz I love to fish! Not much myself into eating clear water fish as much as salt water fish. Anyway it looks like you both had a blast! I love it!

  18. What a wonderful blessing to have such a lovely place for getting away from it all. The absolute best vacation we ever spent was in east Texas Caddo lake in my parents RV. We traveled down, fishing off Sam Rayburn, Lake Livingston, and finally made a stop at a Galveston Mustang Island RV park. It was great waking up and just taking a few steps up the dunes and down to the beach. I'll never forget that time.
    Enjoy your getaways!

I gotta say, it's weird for me seeing your pictures right now though, ha, you guys look warm and not bundled up at all. We're under a whole lot of snow right now :-) It's been coming down for days.

  21. What a beautiful and restful way to spend your weekends. You're quite a combination of personality traits...there's the "girlie girl" crafter part of you and the "tomboy" part, who's not even squeamish about handling those fish. I'll bet you even strung them on the line yourself.
