Z is for Zinnia

Dad always planted zinnias near the vegetable garden to attract the bees and butterflies.

I remember being allowed to pick zinnia bouquets whenever I wanted, which is probably why I love this flower today.

The full, double blossoms are my favorite.

The bright colors make me smile.

I'm dreaming of a zinnia garden for next year, like the one from my childhood, with butterflies and bees and cut zinnia bouquets for the table all summer long.

  1. Such beautiful flowers - I love zinnias as well. I've been looking at the new seed catalogs, envisioning flower gardens to plant in the spring when the snow is gone :)

What a joy to see a picture of zinnias in December! We have dreary wintery weather in PA.

My grandparents always planted zinnias as well - I need to add these to my wishlist for my 2009 garden.

  8. Zinnias are on my favorite list too. In fact, I think I'm going to copy you and plant a bunch of zinnias this year. I carelessly threw some zinnias seeds in my garden last year, but only a couple of them came up. They were the prettiest flowers in my garden though, and by August the ONLY flowers still looking happy.

  9. I TO LOVE ZINNIAS, SO DOES MY HUSBAND. HE HAS BEEN KNOW TO TURN UP A NEW PATCH OF GROUND JUST TO PLANT ZINNIAS IN IT. I USED TO GO TO THE NURSING HOME A LOT AND WOULD TAKE LITTLE BOTTLES OF ZINNIAS IN TO PEOPLE. I JUST WRAPPED MATERIAL AND A RIBBON AROUND A LITTLE BOTTLE THAT I WOULD HAVE PUT IN THE TRASH. IT MADE THE PEOPLE SO HAPPY WHEN YOU GAVE IT TO THEM. I REALLY MISS MY VISITS BUT IT'S JUST SO HARD TO DO ANYMORE. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES.

  11. I like zinnias because their blooms last a long time both in the garden and when in a bouquet.

Thanks for bringing a burst of color into my winter world.

The Zinnia photos are lovely! My mother often grew zinnias.

Now that you are all the way to Z, what's next? I look forward to finding out.
