Friday's Flowers

Musk Thistle

Weed or wildflower?

Thistles grow just about everywhere, I suppose. To most they are a weed. I wouldn't plant one on purpose or allow one to grow in my flowerbed, but I do happen to think they are beautiful.

Genesis 3:17-19

17 To Adam he said, "Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, 'You must not eat of it,'
"Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat of it
all the days of your life.

18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.

19 By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return."

  1. I like thistles too although I wouldn't plant one either. My brother sometimes teases me about a time when I was really little and my mother warned me not to grab a thistle we were looking at. Of course, I GRABBED it. He says I haven't changed since then. Humph!

  3. The only redeeming value of a thistle in my opinion is the beauty of it's flowers.

    Another reminder of the beauty which can be found in suffering ~

  5. Well that's an interesting parallel. The thistles are lovely up close - I haven't taken any close pictures or studied them up close for obvious reasons. heh

    My first thought was "has John been eating from the Tree of Life?" heh

  6. I'm with you on the thistles. They are pretty as long as they are not getting in the way of things that you want to grow!

  7. Funny, I was just thinking this week I wanted some thistle seeds for my garden. The butterflies love them!

    How can something sooo pretty hurt so bad if you step on the main part of the plant? We had a TON of these in our "field" behind the house this spring! They are pretty close up tho, aren't they?

    It's raining here Tracy..want some? Oops..sorry! (O:
