Not a Monkey

I planned on knitting Monkey Socks with this yarn, but these stripes needed something less distracting than a lace stitch pattern to show off their beauty. I think they really shine in this 3x1 rib. And right now a simple pattern that I can knit in my sleep really works out better for me. I need a "don't have to think about it" project for the end of the day and this is it.

I'll have to buy a variegated yarn to knit a pair of Monkeys since I don't seem to have any in my stash. For those of you who have knit a pair (or multiple pairs), which yarn would you recommend? Has anyone used a solid color before? I do have some of that stashed away.

Have a great weekend! Our kids will be home for a few days, so we're planning on having lots of fun--no housework allowed.

  2. That looks great in the 3X1 rib. As for Monkeys, I knit a pair in Kim's (woolen rabbit)yarn and I thought it was a perfect match of yarn and pattern.

  3. For Monkeys, choose a varigated yarn with short runs of color.

  4. I haven't knit Monkeys but they are on my "to do" list. I like the simple pattern for your socks. Sometimes I need "simple" as well!

  5. Tracy, This is one type of instance where you'll find Ravelry is very useful -- you check out the monkey socks pattern (which is number one today) and it brings up all 15 gazillion projects that everybody is doing so you get a good overview of how the various yarns work.

Several of these projects were done in solid color yarn and are quite pretty, in fact, I'd say I like them better in solid or more subtly shaded yarns than in the bolder prints. Or, as Stacie said, short color runs rather than long.

There are a bunch of monkey socks, several of them in solid colors, on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=monkey+socks&ss=0&ct=0

  6. Mmmhmmm. I know what you mean. Took a 'day off' on Thursday so that I could finish moving in to our front room/library. I have put it off for far too long, because it's so hard to cull through books. Got a nice big box to donate though. I am working a simple alpaca baby hat for a friend. Your premie hats are darling. Blue skies!

  9. Love the look for the yarn and the stripes. I made my monkeys with CTH. I love them. There is no color patterning or pooling. They turned out really well. I bet you could make them with a solid color and they would look fantastic! Good luck deciding!

  10. Love the socks. I hear you about the simple knitting at night. A simple top down sweater is my night time knitting.

  12. For the Monkey's I would think that a semi-solid might look nice, at least that's my plan ;-)
    Love those blues!
