Friday's Flowers

Cucumber Blossom

Kim came up with the idea to share photos of flowers on Fridays and I decided to join her. Each Friday this summer you can expect to see a flower picture posted here and maybe a little information about it.

Cucumber blossoms are not the showiest of flowers, but they are quite nice up-close. Our garden is loaded with them right now.

In order for the flower to develop into fruit, pollen must be carried from the male flower to the female flower. The bees have been doing their job and we are enjoying homegrown cucumbers every day.

  1. The cucumber flowers look great! I like veggie flowers since it means that veggies aren't too far behind!

  8. Wow! This brings back memories of childhood where my grandparents had a BIG garden and one of my chores was to pick the cucumbers for my grandma to make into pickles. Great shots! It's good to know your bees haven't disappeared.

  9. You didn't mention the little pests that are invading our crop.

I've got to get busy with the sevin dust or all our pickles will look like tequila - with a worm in the bottom!
